How long will this heart ultrasound take?
This exam takes up to 30-60 minutes.
Preparation for a heart ultrasound
No special prep for a standard transthoracic echo. Eat and drink normally.
Procedure:
You will be asked to lie on a table where a technologist will apply a gel to your left chest and move a transducer to various points across your chest in order to best demonstrate anatomy. You may be asked to hold your breath for a short time to capture an image.
After Procedure:
The radiologist will study your images and dictate a report, which will be sent to your physician within 3–5 business days.
