Venous Doppler
Purpose
- Evaluate for blood clots (deep vein thrombosis/ DVT)
- Assess vein function and detect valve issues that could be causing swelling, pain or varicose veins
How long will this ultrasound take?
This exam takes up to 20-25 mins per extremity
Preparation for a venous doppler ultrasound
- No prep needed. Wear loose clothing
Procedure:
You will be asked to lie on a table where a technologist will apply a gel to the arm or leg of interest and probe is used to move over the area to scan.
After Procedure:
The radiologist will study your images and dictate a report, which will be sent to your physician within 3–5 business days.
