Purpose

• Evaluate testicular and surrounding structures for lumps, swelling, pain, trauma that could cause abnormalities, infections, cysts or hernias.
• Assess blood flow to testicles (important for diagnosing torsion or varicocele)

How long will this ultrasound take?

This exam takes up to 20-30 mins

Preparation for a scrotal ultrasound

• No prep needed. Wear comfortable clothing

Procedure:

You will be asked to remove all clothing from waist down and lie on a table where a technologist will apply a gel to the scrotal area and the transducer is moved over the area to take images.

After Procedure:

The radiologist will study your images and dictate a report, which will be sent to your physician within 3–5 business days.
